Hi! I'm Annie. For a decade, I have supported families with newborns in and out of the hospital setting from DC to Boston and back. I started my career as a postpartum nurse in the DMV and after years of wishing I had more time on the floor to help patients with feeding their babies, I became an IBCLC. I love being a lactation consultant because it allows me to nerd out while problem solving, always keeping up with the latest lactation technologies and practices!
I have one daughter, with whom I certainly made plenty of my own rookie breastfeeding mistakes- namely not utilizing support! I enjoy eating and traveling, reality TV, learning languages, and playing guitar. I was born and raised in Prince George's County, MD and attended the University of Maryland for both my Bachelor's of Science in Community Health and for my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. We might be a good fit if: - you never want to hear the words "Breast is Best!" - you want to make infant feeding work for YOU and your baby - you want lactation support from someone who is deeply familiar with the realities of the current sociopolitical landscape of parenting a newborn and is able to integrate that awareness with clinical skills, experience, and a holistic feminist perspective |
"After meeting with eight (yes, EIGHT) different LCs, I finally found the perfect breastfeeding mentor in Annie. At our first visit, she assured me that she was there to support me however I wanted to pursue the breastfeeding journey--including if I decided the best solution was to stop (at that point, I had been trying unsuccessfully to breastfeed for nearly 7 weeks). But with her help, I didn't have to. Annie's kindness and patience were invaluable, but where she really provided extra help was with her medical training. As a trained RN, she helped me stave off several clogged ducts and guided me through a bout of mastitis...Oh, and did I mention Annie does house calls in DC? Overall, I am so lucky that I found her and so grateful to her. She really is one of the best, most thorough practitioners out there. I could not have gotten through the past 5 weeks without her! |
"I saw Annie multiple times when my baby was born and we were really struggling with breastfeeding. I would definitely recommend her to others! She was extremely accommodating and she responded quickly and scheduled an appointments fast. She was extremely knowledgeable and supportive and did not push me to do anything I wasn't comfortable with, supporting us in whatever worked best for us. I was scared to change the feeding I was doing, but it was also draining me (we were triple feeding at the time), and Annie was great about helping me to slowly adjust and find a routine that works for us. She was also amazing at helping us deal with a tongue tie both in helping us find a specialist and in helping me deal with the recovery process. She knows so many specialists in the area and is very honest her recommendations." |
